Who discovered medicine ?

Medicine is universal to all mankind. It may even be found amongst animals. For example tigers and dogs eat grass when they have digestive problems. Because sickness is common to all, it is impossible to say that one person discovered medicine. Here we give a brief history of medicine in the ancient world.
Oldest Discoveries in Medicine
Like animals, primitive man used plants as medicine. Animals seem to know what is good for them when they are ill. It may be inherited or instinctive knowledge, or a little bit of both. With prehistoric man it was probably the same thing. Over time with much experimentation, people came to know more and more about the helpful plants around them. These herbs, fruits and vegetables were therefore the first medicine humans discovered.

Discovery of Medicine in Egypt
Herodotus in his Histories praised the ancient Egyptians as “the healthiest of people,” second only to Libyans. He ascribed this to good weather conditions and a sound health care system. Herodotus reported that Egyptian medicine was so advanced that each doctor would specialize in one branch of healing only. Homer supports this when he says in the Odyssey that all the people there were physicians.
Imhotep is believed to be the father of Egyptian medicine. He lived during the third dynasty. He may have written the most important book on ancient Egyptian medical practice: the Edwin Smith Papyrus dating from about 1,600 BC. It is an almost purely scientific work explaining the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. Other works of historic importance are the Kahun Gynecological Papyrus from 1,800 BC and the magical Eberus Papyrus from 1,550 BC.
Both men and women practiced medicine in Egypt. The first physician to be recorded in history was Hesyre, chief of doctors to the Pharaoh in 2,700 BC. A woman physician, Peseshet, lived in the fourth dynasty and oversaw the schooling o midwives and female doctors.
Medicine in Ancient Greece
The Greeks were among the greatest physicians in early history. Their methods of diagnosis and treatment were founded on the philosophy of the four humors. The four humors or temperaments were analogous to the four elements: fire, water, earth and air. An imbalance of these caused a person to get sick. The man who discovered modern medicine was a Greek, Hippcrates who wrote the famous Hippocratic Oath. It was Hippocrates who discovered many diseases and symptoms for the first time, such as clubbed fingers. His chest surgeries are the oldest recorded in history.
Medicine in Ancient India
The Indians discovered a system of medicine on their own. It was known as Ayurveda and it is still practiced today. Ayurveda claims there are three types of human bodies based on how the elements interact in them. It was/is important in Ayurveda to know a person’s body type in order to treat his or her condition properly. Depending on one’s type, some foods, drinks and herbs are prescribed or prohibited. Ayurveda relies heavily on herbs and also “color healing with crystals, astrology and Hindu religious practices.
Medicine in Ancient China
It was Taoist practitioners who helped discover medicine in China. The early Taoists believed death could be delayed if not prevented. They made experiments in alchemy and while the knowledge now appears to be lost, a lot of the principles survive in traditional Chinese medicine. The major text on medicine was the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon.
Today many of the old medical theories have been proven false. But others have withstood the test of time. With the strong demand for alternative medicine, traditional forms of healing may be making a comeback.

Who discovered Gravity ?

Gravity is the scientific term used to refer to the force exerted by a planet on objects nearby. This force is the one responsible for keeping the planets as well as the sun in their orbits. Gravity is also responsible for the development of tides. The force is important to keep high temperature in the stars’ interiors. In order to learn more about this concept, it is necessary to take a look at the history of the discovery of gravity.

History
Who discovered gravity? English physician and mathematician Isaac Newton discovered the existence of gravity in the 1680s. The theories related to gravitation formulated by Newton were based on the works done by Galileo Galilei in the 16th century. His works began with his desire to uncover the reason why light objects fall slower than heavy objects.
Newton realized that there is a specific force that caused objects to move from one place to another. He also found that without this force, the moon would fall toward our planet. With the formulation of the concept of gravitation, Sir Isaac Newton was able to provide a scientific explanation to the astronomical theories developed by Johannes Kepler.
The Principia
“Principia” is the work published by Newton regarding the gravitational force. The work focused on the universal gravitation’s inverse-square law. It also discussed the other laws of gravity. The work helped other famous scientists like Urban Le Verrier and John Couch Adams discover other planets including Neptune. In addition, this work was also used in the formulation of theories related to the discrepancy in the orbit of Mercury by Albert Einstein in 1915. Moreover, Einstein’s theory of general relativity was based on Newton’s explanations on the existence of gravity not just in the Earth but also in the universe.
Additional Information and Other Important Details
Gravity influences the motions of galaxies, planets, satellites and projectiles. Even if gravity is considered as the weakest force among the nature’s forces, it is still powerful because it holds together the different important entities in the universe. Additionally, the force identifies the escape speed for moving objects like rockets.
Other theories suggest that gravitational force differs in the various regions of the space. It was in 1798 when Henry Cavendish calculated the actual measurement of the force, which was equivalent to 6.754 10-11 Newton square meter per square kilogram. The gravitational force is the one responsible for the shape of the Earth because it holds together the materials within the vicinity of the planet.

Who discovered DNA ?

The story of who discovered Dna is a story of broken friendship that gave way to one of the greatest breakthroughs in Science. But it is a wonder what could have happened if the friendship had gone smoothly to the end.
Linus Pauling
Linus Pauling was a physical chemist who put forward a Dna model out of practical thinking that mathematical estimation in the 1950s. He was fascinated with Dna research. He would have been the man who discovered Dna if not for his aloofness from other English scientists. This kept him from being updated as other scientists were, like Watson and Crick.

James Watson and Francis Crick
The discovery of Dna or deoxyribonucleic acid happened when James Watson and Francis Crick were working together to find out the configuration hemoglobin. As they were doing so, they stumbled upon this particular acid cell. After much collaboration with other scientists, they were later credited with being the men who discovered Dna. Today, their names are associated with the discovery of Dna, along with the names of Franklin and Wilkins.
Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins
In London, Maurice Wilkins was also busy with his own studies on the Dna. Later, he collaborated with an x-ray expert to get more detailed images of the acid cells breaking down or functioning in a humid environment. This expert was Rosalind Franklin. Franklin was so ahead in the research that Watson attended a lecture by Franklin and was so immersed in it.
But he failed to jut down notes that later messed up his first attempt at publicly presenting a Dna model. He missed one detail that affected his computation. It became a ridiculous presentation. But this did not stop him from being one of the men who discovered Dna.
As a result of the fiasco, Watson’s and Crick’s sponsors ordered them to quit the race for presenting an accurate Dna model.
Wilkins and Franklin Argued
Later, though in a joint project, they argued about the involvement of the molecule helix. Helix, said Wilkins, would take care of the strong cross issue that was giving them a problem. But Franklin wouldn’t give way. The friendship was gradually weakened so that Wilkins later found a friend in Watson.
With the developing friendship also came some vital information exchange, most of which were major findings by Franklin from her x-rays. With enough vital details given by Wilkins from the data of Franklin, Watson and Crick finally developed a model for the Dna and were credited with being the men who discovered Dna. The completed the story of the discovery of Dna.
